Wellbutrin was approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in 1985 for the management of MDD (major depression disorders), SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and to help people quit smoking.  Although, it is often used for off-label (non-FDA approved) uses such as for the treatment of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).  Wellbutrin (Bupropion HCI) is also sold under the name Zyban.

Wellbutrin is in a class of medications known as dopamine-reuptake blocking compounds.  Unlike SSRI’s (Selective Seritonin Reuptake Inhibitors) Wellbutrin acts on the brain chemicals dopamine and norepinephrine.  Wellbutrin (Bupropion HCI) is available in 3 different forms – IR (Immediate Release), SR (Sustained Release), XL (Extended Release).

Since Wellbutrin is a dopamine-reuptake inhibitor, it has different side effects than a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor such as – Celexa, Paxil, Prozac, Lexapro and Zoloft.

Hallucinations

Ringing In The Ears

Blistering, Rash Of The Skin

Peeling Of The Skin
